Uros Slokar Signs To Play Ball In Russia

By Peter D. Walker

Another former Raptor has signed overseas for the 2007-2008. Uros Slokar recently signed a one-year contract with Moscow Dynamo in Russia.

The team will be changing it's name to Triumph Lyubertsy due to new ownership. According to Uros Slokar's website, "It's a young and ambitious team that qualified for UlebCup last year." Last season they won the Russian Superleague silver medal.

Slokar is presently playing for Slovenia in a tournament in New Zealand. He will join former NBA-er Eddie Gill in Moscow.  Gill played for the Nets, Grizzlies, Blazers and Pacers. While playing for the Nets against the Celtics on the 15th of April, 2001, Gill scored the eight millionth point in NBA history.

Uros Slokar is a 6'10", 255 lb. Center/Power Forward who was drafted 58th overall in the second round of the 2005 NBA Draft by Toronto. Prior to joining the Raptors he played for Italian League Champions Benetton with former Raptors teammates Andrea Barganani, Jorge Garbajosa and assistant General Manager Maurizio Gheradini.

Uros Slokar was one of the most likeable young men in the NBA whose off-court demeanour proved that pro athletes can be nice guys. It is too bad that Uros won't be donning Raptors' red next season. All Raptor fans certainly wish him well.

Everyone hopes that Uros finds a way to work his way back to the NBA.

Uros Slokar Web Site

For those fans who want to remain up-to-date with Uros Slokar, you can visit his newly created website:

                                            www.uros-slokar.com

Slokar personally made the first entry. The site contains logos of the teams for which he has played (including the Toronto Raptors) and includes links to his personal Facebook and MySpace accounts!

The site is not state-of-the-art by any means, but its a great way to stay in touch with an all around good guy as he continues with his basketball career in Eurpoe.
