Jason Kapono Ties All-Time Record and Wins Back-to-Back NBA 3 Point Shootout Crowns

 By Andrew Dubowec

Jason Kapono of the Toronto Raptors conviningly captured the 2008 NBA 3 Point Shootout crown in New Orleans, making it back-to-back wins for the three point specialist.

In doing so, Kapono tied the all-time record of 25 points set by by Chris Hodges in 1986 and he bettered his own winning score of 24 points in 2007.

Kapono hit eight of his last nine shots and sank all five money balls, as he won in convincing fashion. Dirk Nowitski finished second with 17 points. Here is Kapono's winning final round.

Kapono flat out shoots the long ball better than anyone in the NBA. His silky smooth delivery and lightning quick release make him lethal from beyond the arc. No doubt the Raptors need to make better use of his shooting skills down the stretch.

In the Shootout, Kapono missed his first two shots in the last round before dropping 10 straight. By the time he approached the last rack of balls, Kapono had already clinched the win and didn't have to fire up another shot.

Kapono almost didn't get out of the first round. He was in danger of elimination as he approached the last rack but came through in the clutch by sinking five straight shots to advance. With his stroke back, Kapono won easily with the support of Raptor All-Star, Chris Bosh and Charles Barkley in the booth!
