Looking For The Next TV Voice of The Raptors

 By RaptorTalk

With not much happening in Raptorland, the focus is on who might be the next TV voice of the Raptors.

Since the Toronto Raptors announced play-by-play man Chuck Swirsky was leaving for Chicago, the team has been absolutely swamped with applications. According to reports, two announcers appear to have the early lead: Torontonian Mike Inglis and Matt Devlin.

After 10 years as the Miami Heat radio voice, Inglis apparently wants to return home. But because he's never done TV, the Raptors are also looking at Devlin, who has worked with TNT, the Memphis Grizzlies and Charlotte Bobcats.

Mike Inglis is the opposite of a homer. Inglis calls it like he sees it - sometimes through a half-empty glass and pessimistically. While Inglis did a decent job with the Raptors, in my opinion he was far from spectacular.

Matt Devlin spent 6 years as the lead play-by-play voice of the National Basketball Association's Memphis Grizzlies and Charlotte Bobcats. Devlin has also done play-by-play for The NBA on TNT, The NFL on FOX, Major League Baseball on FOX and men's college basketball The Big Ten Network.

Matt Devlin might be a better choice than Inglis. Here is his work from a Magic/Raptors game:

While these names have been thrown in the ring, it wouldn't surprise if the Raptors followed the Swirsky path and nabbed a young college announcer to be the Raptors new television voice.

Whatever MLSE does, I hope they do NOT hire another homer with a repitoire of mind-numbing catch phrases!
