Potential Toronto Raptors Selections With the 17th Draft PIck

 By RaptorTalk

As Bryan Colangelo begins evaluating talent at the pre-draft workouts in Orlando, here is a list of potential selections with the 17th pick. While some observers believe the 17th pick is a longshot, there are often picks in that range who work out just fine.

Rob Babcock selected Joey Graham and allowed Danny Granger to go at #17. Granger would look great on the Raptors if not for Babcock's bumbling. On the other hand, the Raptors selected Michael Bradley with the 17th pick and he proved to be a bust.

At the Orlando Camp, there will be testing and light scrimages with a group of top NCAA players including Joe Alexander, Darrell Arthur, D.J. Augustin, Jerryd Bayless, Michael Beasley, Eric Gordon, Donte Green, DeAndre Jordan, Brook Lopez, Kevin Lowe, O.J. Mayo, JaVale McGee, Anthony Randolph, Derrick Rose and Russell Westbrook. Because the top Euro's are not participating, some of these young stars will be available to the Raptors at #17.

Apparently, Bryan Colangelo is looking at private workouts for as many as 40 players during the upcoming weeks.

SMALL FORWARDS AND GUARDS

Nicolas Batum, 6-foot-8 SF, France
Will Bryan pick another Euro? This kid could be good! Long, athletic but unpolished; solid defensive potential

Chris Douglas-Roberts, 6-7 SF-SG, Memphis
Has big time experience with Memphis - a great program. Good finisher with either hand; can get to the rim

Brandon Rush, 6-7 SF-SG, Kansas
Past of the NCAA championship squad. The kid is a good scorer, but needs to improve defensively

Chase Budinger, 6-7 SG-SF, Arizona
Smooth shooter comfortable coming off screens or spotting up

Joe Alexander, 6-8 SF, West Virginia
Incredible leaping ability, but unpolished offensive threat seen as more of a project. Yes, white men can jump!!! Here he is dunking from the foul line.

CENTERS & PF's

Darrell Arthur, 6-9 PF, Kansas
Another important piece from Kansas, he's not a good rebounder (Raps need a board hog), but a solid-scoring big man

JaVale McGee, 7-0 C Nevada
Might be worth the gamble if Bryan can be patient. He's a very raw project. Years away from being a major contributor.

Marreese Speights, 6-10 PF-C, Florida
Best attribute is his back-to-the-basket offensive game

Roy Hibbert, 7-2 C, Georgetown
Could be the plodding lane filling big man the Raps need. Not particularly mobile for a big man, but has a solid work ethic.

Alexis Ajinka, 7-0 C, France
More a mid-range shooter than low-post presence - definitely a project

Of course, this is all moot if Bryan Colangelo trades the pick, which many expect he will do. Odds of keeping the pick are likely 50/50 at this point.

The Raptores, I hope will trade and move up, OJ would look good! The GM needs to address the defense!

Thanks for the list of contenders. In your opinion how much input does Chris Bosh have. Plus how far up the draft will they get by trading a PG. Still not sure TJ can fetch the value they are looking for.
