Bryan Colangelo Is Officially A Seller And Not A Buyer

 By RaptorTalk

After the Raptors hit rock bottom in a loss to Oklahoma City (2W- 24L) its clear there is no chance the Raptors will make the playoffs – nor should they.

The other day on the FAN590 Jack Armstrong asked Elliotte Friedman if the Raptors should be "buyers or sellers" and while no definitive answer was forthcoming - it was a good question.

My opinion has been that Bryan needed to be a big-time "buyer" and try to ignite the roster in a drive for a playoff spot. However, based on what I've seen lately, Bryan Colangelo should change gears and become a "seller" instead of a buyer.

The Raptors are an embarassment. You can't sugar coat it. If the Raps go 2-5 through to January, the Raptors enter 2009 with a 12-20 record. That translates into a 30-52 record at year end.

If I'm Bryan, I would be open to any and all offers for any and all players. No one is untouchable because at this point I don't see how even the acquisition of a stud SG/SF would significantly help the Raps turn this season around. The roster is too flawed.

Last thing I want is the Raps to squeak into the 8th playoff seed and then get hammered by Boston in four games.

Bryan needs to focus on the long term and not the short term.

When I say "long term", I'm not necessarily referring to 2012. What I mean is that we accept this year is a write-off. However, we should be able to retool for 2009-10 and be competitive again quickly. Then in 2010-11 we should be right back in the hunt and be much stronger for the future.

I see no point in another quick first round exit. At this stage, I'd rather bite the bullet this season and hopefully we land a decent pick and we pick the 'right guy'. Unfortunately, the last 'right guy' we picked was Bosh.

If Bryan is smart, he can retool without rebuilding, kind of like what Detroit did a few years ago. New Jersey is doing it now and to a certain degree LA did it. For instance, NJ picked up Harris and Lopez and all of a sudden has a decent team.

Lets assume we keep Chris and Jose, but move Kapono, Parker, Hump and possibly Bargnani. If Bryan can bring back some young talent and a draft pick to go with our own pick - he could have the foundation for a young competitive team next season. Then next year he either deals JO or has his cap space in 2010.

"Sell Bryan, Sell".

thank you! I have been saying things like "The Raptors are an embarassment." for a couple of weeks on the Raptors forums I write on and i have met a lot of resistance. I am glad that it is not just me that feels this team needs to be dismantled. Bryan has to decide quickly if he is keeping bosh and then move quickly as this season is over and time to move on.

Totally agree. Not sure what Bosh is sayng in private but sell what you can now. But stop shopping everywhere but the US for talent. Granted there are bargains and I'm all for second chances but these guys are playing in Europe for a reason.

Here is a remarkably entertaining comment from an uber-Raptor cheerleader named Gabe Patlashenko. Gabe believes that with Jay Triano, the Raps are a 4th seed! Who knew??? Raptor fanboys rock!  LOL ....

"You're a tool beyond imagination. Let me explain something to you buddy. crappy coaching (sam mitchell) + tough JO adjustment + unclear roles + tough transition with new coach = below average start. However, Triano's amazing new system + JO finding his role + role plays playing well + working inside out = potentially 4th or 5th in the east. Believe in your team, we didn't get Jermaine O'neal to rebuild for 2010-2011"
